About Cork BMX Club

Cork BMX Club was founded in 2015. We are an incorporated entity affiliated with Cycling Ireland & BMX Ireland. We are guided by the rules and regulations of national and international bodies – Cycling Ireland & UCI (Union Cyclist Internationale). The Club is open to all riders, gender and ability from approximately 4 years old. Those wishing to join should have good control of a pedal cycle.

What is BMX?

BMX Stands for Bicycle Moto Cross, it is a cycle sport race which are sprint races on purpose built of single lap race tracks. BMX is an extreme sport that sees 8 riders compete for 1st Place, one lap only over rollers berms and jumps before the finish line. BMX started in California in the 1970’s and has been an Olympic sport since the 2008 Olympic Games which were held in China.

To become a member an individual needs to have partake in one of the following type of trainings:

  1. Individuals 11yrs and under attend a four hour course which is run over four one hour sessions four consecutive Saturday mornings.
  2. Applicants 11yrs and older partake in a personal assessment programme of one hour.
  3. Adults partake in a personal assessment programme of one hour.

To partake in any course all individuals must have a Cycling Ireland Licence, for insurance purposes and be a member of Cork BMX club.

The Cycling Ireland licences is an annual licence and costs from €10 dependent on age.

Annual Cork BMX club membership costs €50. This cost of fundamental course or assessments is included in membership fee.

We have a limited number of Club bikes and full face helmets that we can lend out to participants for the fundamentals or assessments.
